As a child, Cecil was a TV addict. Specifically, he was hooked on watching TV commercials, from the days of RTS and RTM. In 1993, he began his career as a Copywriter, working in ad agencies like Henen Advertising, Mandate International Advertising, Paprika Interactive, JWT, McCann-Erickson and Publicis Singapore. His work has won awards in the Singapore Creative Circle Awards and the New York Festivals, notably for accounts like the Singapore Army and UPS.
In 2008, his addiction to TV and passion for creativity in videos, filmmaking and cinematography led him to Mediacorp, to raise the bar in the quality of ads conceptualised and produced for clients. As part of Creative Central, Cecil jointly leads a team of Art Directors and Copywriters in coming up with ideas that solve marketing challenges by harnessing all of Mediacorp's transmedia solutions. This has led to innovative and groundbreaking work that has won Gold and Bronze awards in Marketing Magazine's MARKies Awards. Cecil has also been invited to be a jury member for the IAS Hall of Fame Awards, New York Festivals and Promax Asia and India awards shows, judging the creativity and production quality of radio and print ads, videos and trailers from international submissions.
A self-professed "grammar nazi", Cecil finds glee in correcting the grammar in other people's ads, text messages and social media posts. He also daydreams about fishing in New Caledonia, uses his Harley Davidson to raise funds for charity and deliver toys to underprivileged children, and is an accredited FIA volunteer motorsport race offical for Formula 1 races in the Singapore, Australian, Azerbaijan and British grand prix circuits.
