2011 MAMA will be held in Singapore this year following the successful show held in Macau last year. The Korean Wave has been a worldwide phenomenon since K-POP gained fast-track popularity as a musical genre. 2010 MAMA, which aired in 16 countries including China, Japan, Singapore and America, attracted an impressive viewership of 1.9 billion people. We expect an increase in the viewership this year.
Brought to you by CJ E&M and MediaCorp VizPro International, 2011 MAMA will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium. This year's concept, Music Makes One, carries the meaning of music connecting the world together. In sync with this concept and the popularity of K-POP, the top Korean artistes and other acclaimed artistes around the world will come together to create the ultimate music festival.
The show aired as the Mnet Music Awards in 1999 and has been in Korea for the last ten years. 2010 MAMA was rebranded as Asia's premiere music awards show which is Asia's largest. The rebranded show is the first time it has been held out of Korea.
2010 Mama attracted nearly 30 000 fans. 8000 tickets were sold out within three days. This prestigious event was attended by over 80 artistes (including award presenters and recipients, Asian and international singers).
2011 MAMA producers said "Singapore is one of Asia's leading economic and cultural hubs, which includes a well prepared entertainment infrastructure and capability of providing fans a comfortable environment." Given that "Singapore also acknowledges the worldwide popularity of K-POP which makes Singaporean fans look forward to MAMA even more."
MediaCorp, a leading media company in Singapore will be co-producing this year's show with Mnet, which raises MAMA's credibility as Asia's premiere music awards show.
